What You’ll Do
- Conduct pre/post-trip inspections, complete DVIRs & electronic logs (Samsara/Geotab). 20% of daily tasks.
- Safely load, tarp, haul, and dump materials with end-dump & frameless trailers (up to 80,000 GVWR). 50% of daily tasks.
- Maneuver in tight urban demo sites, landfills, and quarries; follow spotter signals and site traffic plans. 10% of daily tasks.
- Assist loader operators with scale tickets, weight limits, and material segregation. 10% of daily tasks.
- Report maintenance issues to in-house diesel shop; perform minor fixes (belts, lights, glad-hands). 10% of daily tasks.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Valid CDL-A with air-brake endorsement; 2 + years recent end-dump / frameless trailer experience.
- Clean MVR: no DUI, reckless, or more than 2 preventable accidents in 36 months.
- Able to operate 10- to 18-speed manual transmissions (autos also in fleet).
- DOT-compliant medical card & ability to pass pre-employment drug screen (random program in force).
- Capable of climbing trailer ladders, bending tarps, and handling 50lb tarp arms/hoses.
Nice-to-Have
- HazMat or Tank endorsement (we’ll pay to add).
- OSHA 10, HAZWOPER 40, or MSHA Part 46 certificates.
- Familiarity with E-log systems and basic on-board diagnostics.

Position Summary:
Lead planning, execution, and close-out of demolition, environmental-remediation, and heavy-civil projects ranging from $250 k to $25 M. You will manage the full project life-cycle—estimating, scheduling, budget control, subcontractor oversight, safety compliance, and client relations—while mentoring field teams enrolled in our federally registered apprenticeship program.
Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Construction
- Review RFQs/RFPs, conduct site walks, develop detailed estimates, and 3-week look-ahead schedules.
- Prepare bid packages; negotiate and issue subcontracts & POs.
- Lead project kickoff meetings covering scope, safety plan (OSHA, HAZWOPER), and quality objectives.
Execution
- Maintain CPM schedule using Primavera P6 or MS Project; update weekly.
- Track cost codes; approve vendor invoices; forecast EAC and margin.
- Enforce SafeCo’s < 1.0 EMR standards—conduct daily JSA and toolbox talks.
- Coordinate labor, equipment, trucking, and disposal logistics across multi-state jobs.
- Resolve RFIs, change orders, and client directives in real time.
Close-Out
- Punch-list walk-downs and site demobilization.
- Compile as-built documentation and waste-disposal manifests.
- Lead post-project lessons learned for continuous improvement.
People & Growth
- Coach apprentices and field engineers; verify OJT hours toward DOL completion certificates.
- Identify process innovations and new market opportunities with VP of Business Development.
Required Qualifications
- 4-year degree in Construction Management, Civil/Environmental Engineering, or related field -OR- 8 + years progressive field experience.
- Minimum 3 years as a Project Manager on $1 M + demolition, environmental, or heavy-civil projects.
- Proficient with estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid, Sage Estimating) and CPM scheduling tools.
- Current OSHA 30 and HAZWOPER 40 (or ability to obtain within 60 days).
- Valid CDL-A or ability to pass DOT physical; willingness to travel regionally (up to 30 %).
- Demonstrated ability to hit cost, schedule, and safety targets while leading multi-craft crews.
Preferred
- West Virginia or Pennsylvania Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor license.
- Experience working under state/federal brown-field or Superfund regulations.
- LEED Green Associate or CQM-C certification.
Physical & Work Environment
- Frequent site exposure to uneven terrain, dust, noise, and extreme temperatures.
- Ability to lift 50 lb, climb ladders, and enter confined spaces per project requirements.
- PPE use (respirators, powered-air hoods) and fit testing required.

Core Duties
- Safely operate excavators (up to 200 k lbs), dozers, wheel/loaders, articulated off-road trucks, skid-steers and attachments (shears, grapples, hammers).
- Perform daily equipment inspections, document defects, and coordinate minor repairs with on-staff diesel mechanics.
- Execute cut/fill, trenching, mass excavation, site clearing, structural and interior demolition per engineer’s plans and PM’s production goals.
- Rig, hoist and set large structural components; load out demo debris and regulated waste to permitted facilities.
- Maintain line-of-sight communication with spotters; enforce exclusion zones, LOTO and confined-space protocol at all times.
- Complete JSA / toolbox-talk paperwork and contribute ideas to keep our EMR < 1.0 safety record intact.
- Mentor apprentices, verifying their task hours and classroom progress.
Minimum Qualifications
- High-school diploma/GED plus 3 yrs verifiable seat time on medium- or heavy-duty equipment (or graduation from SafeCo’s apprenticeship).
- Ability to read grade stakes, cut sheets and demolition drawings.
- Current OSHA 10 (or ability to earn within 30 days) and clean drug/alcohol screen.
- Valid Class A or B CDL (preferred) and ability to travel overnight up to 30 %.
- Physically able to lift 50 lb, climb ladders, and work in all weather.
Preferred Extras
- NCCCO or OE Local-IUOE crane/rigging card.
- WV or PA Asbestos Worker/Supervisor license.
- GPS machine-control experience (Trimble/Topcon).
Compensation & Benefits
- $26-$34 /hr starting range, DOE, plus overtime after 40 hrs.
