Northridge High School

Project Description

Safeco successfully executed asbestos and hazardous material abatement, demolition, and site preparation for the initial phase of this new school construction project. During the project, our team encountered and addressed 30,000 cubic yards of unsuitable soil, implementing innovative solutions to bridge these areas. Additionally, we excavated and placed an extra 50,000 cubic yards of soil to construct a stable building pad for the new structure.

A key challenge involved separating the existing building from an adjoining gymnasium that the school board intended to reuse. The voids created around the gym were structurally braced and filled with flowable material to ensure safety and stability.

Safeco also prioritized preservation, salvaging over 200 historical artifacts from the school. These included cornerstones, the entry stone, and the iconic school lintel, maintaining a vital connection to the site's legacy while facilitating its future use.
